Get your freak on tonight

Amy Grimehouse presents another cult film screening accompanied by all manner of shenanigans, and for this instalment it’s time to give in to your inner freak.

The Book Club will be screening Tod Browning’s horror movie, Freaks. With a cast mostly composed of actual carnival performers the film was based on Tod Robbins’ 1923 short story Spurs.

Browning cast real people with deformities as the eponymous sideshow “freaks”, rather than using costumes and makeup. The premise of the film is that a beautiful trapeze artist agrees to marry the leader of side-show performers, but his deformed friends discover she is only marrying him for his inheritance. The film discovers who the real freaks really are….

The evening promises to be as weird, if not weirder than the film, especially as we’ve heard one of the Grimehouse girls is known to have the deepest bellybutton on earth.
