If you thought the athletes would be the first people outside of the builders to cross the Olympic Stadium finish line, well you were wrong.
Princess Beatrice fired the starting gun on the National Lottery Olympic Park Run which saw 5,000 people don their trainers and head out round the five mile route. The run took in sporting venues in the Olympic Park that the National Lottery helped fund such as the Velodrome and Aquatics Centre, before finishing inside the stadium.
While the 5,000 runners – picked at random from 43,000 entrants – tackled the Olympic Park course, around 12,000 family and friends got their first glimpse of the Olympic Stadium track as they were entertained by dance troupe Flawless and electronic string quartet Escala amongst others during entertainment hosted by TV presenter Holly Willoughby and GB sprinter Iwan Thomas.
