Secret cash machine: Euston Station
Look ma, no queue

Euston Station is a nightmare. Full stop. From its uninspired post-war architecture to the courtyard which is little more than a smoker’s paradise, Euston is the pits. But there are signs of improvement – a new Sainsbury’s Local has just opened up to give some much needed competition to the Marks & Spencer Simply Food, and some new cash machines have popped up.

There is always a massive queue at the lone HSBC cashpoint near the Underground entrance. It is hell. There are also some semi-hidden machines near platforms 10 & 11, but lately these have been just as busy.

A couple weeks ago some new cash machines have emerged and for some reason THEY ARE NEVER BUSY. Rejoice, ATM users. This may be because they look like the cash machines that charge a fortune just to withdraw a tenner, but luckily they are free!

Located between platforms 5 and 6, just head to the nice big sign that screams ‘CASH!’ There’s even a friendly sign that says Cash Machines – I have no idea how people are missing these, but we are creatures of habit.

Cash nirvana awaits.

  1. there’s a handy ATM on one side of Foyles on Charing X Rd – much less busy than the Barclays ones off Soho Sq. What about secret loos of London? What do you do when you’re caught short? I recommend Heals on Tottenham Court Rd…public convenience with upholstery – everyone’s a winner!

  2. In Euston’s defence, the M&S does stock ice cold pre-mixed G&T’s for a couple of quid. Mmm, economic train boozin.
